Inspired by a visit to the Paris flea markets, the Abigail Market Jacket turns a quilt into a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. Its relaxed, straight, boxy shape, classic collar, and two generous patch pockets make it an easy layer to reach for season after season. Every quilt brings its own color, texture, and history—so every jacket tells a different story.

This is a project to settle into and enjoy. It takes a little sewing experience, a little patience, and a little time, especially when working through the collar, facings, and thicker quilted seams. You don’t need to be an expert, but some familiarity with garment sewing will help you feel comfortable along the way.

• Abigail’s personal tips for reducing bulk, choosing fabrics, and adding optional finishes.

• An 8½ × 11-inch tiled pattern to print and assemble at home.

• A 36 × 48-inch pattern for professional print-shop printing.

Choose your size collection

The pattern is available as two separate products: sizes 0–14 or sizes 16–30. Each purchase includes the selected size collection and the complete instructions. Follow your body measurements when choosing your size. If using a thicker quilt,  you may want to go up in size. 

Make it your own

Let the quilt’s design guide your placement, choose coordinating fabric for the under collar and facings, and finish with buttons or optional snaps. The instructions also include ideas for bias-bound edges and adjusting the jacket length.

You’ll need a quilt, coordinating fabric as desired, thread, your chosen closures, and a sewing machine suitable for the thickness of your quilt. Seam allowances are included on the pattern. Print at 100% / Actual Size and check the 2-inch test square before cutting.

Please note: This is a digital PDF sewing pattern, not a finished jacket. No physical item will be shipped. The print-at-home version requires trimming and assembling the tiled pages.
